SPCA grateful for more donations to cheer fund

The donation drive opened in early November and ran until the first week of January.

Although the Benoni SPCA fell short of its R100 000 fundraising target, the organisation recorded a significant increase in donations to its annual Christmas Cheer Fund last year, compared to 2024.

The fund raised R21 365 this festive season, more than double the R9 742 collected in 2024, which saw a sharp decline in contributions.
SPCA chairperson Monique Quenet expressed her gratitude to the community for their support.

“On behalf of the committee and staff of the Benoni SPCA, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone in our community who supported the 2025 Christmas Cheer Fund,” said Quenet.

“This money will go towards ensuring our staff have all the PPE necessary to continue serving the animals of Benoni while being comfortable and protected,” she said.

The donation drive opened in early November and ran until the first week of January.

The Christmas Cheer Fund plays a crucial role in helping the shelter provide essential care to animals during the festive season, a time when donations typically decline.

Despite not reaching its financial goal, the Benoni SPCA remains committed to its mission and continues to encourage the public to support its work through donations and animal adoptions.

Community members who wish to assist can contact the Benoni SPCA on 011 894 2814 or visit the shelter at 3 Klein Street, Lakefield, to find out how you can contribute.
