Soup Day offers hope to the needy
The Boitumelo Home Based Care and 21 for 21 Maya's Legacy served 175 people on the day.
The Boitumelo Home Based Care NPO and 21 for 21 Maya’s Legacy restored hope and reminded community members that they are seen, valued, and supported after feeding over 170 people in Etwatwa West during its soup day drive recently.
Boitumelo Home Based Care director Phindi Mtshali said the day was more than sharing a meal but a powerful expression of care, dignity, and community solidarity.
“We served 175 people. This meaningful initiative served as a lifeline for vulnerable individuals and families who face daily challenges related to food insecurity and poverty,” said Mtshali.
“Through the simple act of providing warm, nourishing soup, the initiative restored hope and reminded community members that they are seen, valued, and supported. For many beneficiaries, the soup day offered not only essential nutrition, but also a human connection, compassion, and encouragement during difficult times,” she added.

Janap Biemba from Maya’s Legacy said the initiative highlighted the importance of collaboration and demonstrated how grassroots partnerships can create meaningful, lasting impact at the community level.
“The soup day also created a safe space for engagement, allowing caregivers, volunteers, and community members to connect and strengthen bonds. This initiative stood as a reminder that small acts of kindness, when done with passion and purpose, can uplift lives and build stronger, more resilient communities,” Biemba said.
Mtshali thanked volunteers, caregivers, and all those who contributed to the event’s success.
“We would like to express a heartfelt appreciation to Joy Clinic for offering the facility to host the soup day, volunteers, caregivers, community members, and donors who contributed towards this successful day.
“We are calling for more sponsors to join us so that this can become an ongoing initiative.”
