SPCA AGM: Finances stable
The Benoni SPCA said donations remain vital to keeping the organisation running
The Benoni SPCA has reported a financial surplus of R278 740 for the financial year ending March 31, demonstrating the organisation’s commitment to maintaining financial stability while continuing to provide essential animal welfare services.
Financial statements presented at the AGM showed that the organisation generated about R4.49 million in revenue during the past financial year. Income was derived from donations, fundraising activities, adoption fees, kennel income and other sources that support the society’s day-to-day operations.
Operating expenses exceeded R4.1 million, with veterinary services, salaries and wages, municipal expenses, insurance and security among the society’s highest costs. These expenses reflect the resources required to rescue, treat, shelter and rehome animals while responding to cases of neglect and cruelty throughout the Benoni area.
The directors confirmed that the organisation remains a going concern and has sufficient resources to continue operating and serving the community.
Although the independent auditor issued a qualified opinion on the financial statements, the audit confirmed that they were prepared in accordance with the applicable financial reporting standards.
The Benoni SPCA said donations remain vital to keeping the organisation running and encouraged residents, businesses and supporters to continue contributing towards its mission of protecting vulnerable animals.
