EMPD conducts another by-law blitz
Operations are set to continue in an effort to ensure that municipal by-laws are adhered to.
From September 22 and 23, the EMPD Bronberg Precinct participated in crime prevention and by-law enforcement operations in Etwatwa, Petit and Cloverdene, and successes included:
Hijacked truck
On September 22 at about 20:00 officers received reliable information an Isuzu truck, reported hijacked in Pretoria, was spotted in Daveyton. Tracking operations were launched and the vehicle was found abandoned at the Etwatwa Library. No arrests were made.
Illegal operations
The EMPD Bronberg Precinct By-Law Enforcement Unit conducted targeted operations in Petit on September 22, following community complaints about unauthorised business activities.
The following operations were targeted:
• Illegal LPG gas trading, Forest Road, Petit
Officers inspected a plot where it was reported that LPG gas refill and exchange was taking place. The inspection revealed that no authorisation had been granted for hazchem chemical operations. A spot fine of R500 was issued and the business was ordered to cease operations, pending compliance with by-laws and safety regulations.
• Illegal recycling, Cloverdene Ext 5
An unauthorised recycling service, operating from a residential property including the illegal encroachment of the township development and human settlement by-laws, was issued a final notice.
•. Welding and steel works
A welding and steel manufacturing company operating from a plot, was served with a notice of non-compliance for operating a business, that obstructs the sidewalk, posing a safety risk to residents.
• Illegal outdoor advertising, Pretoria Road, Petit
Several businesses were served with notices to rectify the erection of unregistered advertisement boards, that obstruct pedestrian sidewalks.
Illegal trading
On September 23, the EMPD Bronberg Precinct By-Law Unit in conjunction with the Crystal Park SAPS conducted a by-law enforcement operation focussing on illegal street trading around the Cloverdene Sports ground.
Thirteen traders’ goods and primary structures were confiscated, including clothing, perishable goods and tyres. Perishable goods were responsibly disposed while non-perishable items were booked in at the EMPD pound for safekeeping .
