CPF honours victims of crime

The vigil was held at sunset at Homestead dam

As the sun set over the banks of Homestead Dam, on October 30, members of the Benoni CPF quietly lit candles, hosted a vigil to honour those who lost their lives to crime.

The lives of Amanda Lightfoot and Bokgabo Poo (4) were remembered, as well as every member of the community who has been affected by crime.

“Tonight we remember those who were ripped from our society and whose death was perpetrated by criminals,” said Melanie Kruger, CPF spokesperson.

“We are also using this opportunity to pray for every victim of crime.

“The criminal activity may have resulted in you losing a material item but the act of crime killed something in you. Your sense of safety or trust.”

Kruger continued by saying that through their involvement and patrols CPF members hope that their presence on the streets of Benoni will restore the community’s trust.
