A 35-year-old man was shot and killed allegedly by his friend, during an argument about beer.
This incident happened at the Actonville Hostel on October 23. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident when he tried to flee from the police.
According to a statement received from Captain Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, the argument between the friends broke out just after 19:00. This is when the suspect accused the victim of always being short of money.
“According to eyewitnesses, the victim allegedly ordered two beers from the hostel shebeen, but was only able to pay for one,” said Van Staad.
“An argument erupted and the suspect took out a firearm and shot the victim at close range.”
Members of the Actonville SAPS rushed to the scene where witnesses were able to point out the suspect.
“He attempted to flee but was apprehended when he tried to enter a nearby shack,” she said.
“He then led officers to his home where the murder weapon, a black Norinco, was found. At the scene of the crime, two spent cartridges were found.”
Medical personnel were on the scene and the victim was declared dead.
The suspect has been arrested on charges of murder as well as being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
