Nest causes power cuts

Annelien Jansen van Vuuren writes by email:

Please could you give me a contact person and number where we can report that in our block, in Third Street, Northmead, our electricity has been going off every time it starts raining, for the past two weeks.

When we phone the call centre at Ekurhuleni they are rude and say we must report the problem at our council.

They can send a technician out only for a temporary fix.

In this past week we have been sitting without electricity every evening, for about six to eight hours.

The numbers at the council that the internet advertises are not answered.

Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

Editor’s note: Ekurhuleni spokesperson Mandlakazi Mpahlwa-Sigcawu said the problem reported was attended to.

“The cause of the spurious outages was a large bird’s nest on top of the distribution pole, which caused an electrical short circuit every time it rained — the nest was removed and, subsequently, no similar outage was experience with the recent rains,” he added.

He added that electricity related complaints or enquiry s can be reported to the following numbers 011 999 6439 or 011 999 6432 or 011 999 6440 at Ekurhuleni during office hours, which is 8am to 4.30pm.
