The letter of “Farrarmere Resident” (BCT April 18) refers.
I wholeheartedly support the Farrarmere closure initiative and I am more than willing to pay a reasonable fee towards the cost thereof.
Furthermore, I believe that the overwhelming majority of rational thinking and selfless Farrarmere residents do so, too.
As a Farrarmere resident for the past 27 years, I am well aware that the erstwhile Farrarmere Community Precinct (FCP) and Community Monitoring Services’ (CMS) efforts and presence has reduced the crime in our beautiful suburb over many years.
However, as a husband and father of three daughters, I am alarmed at the increase in the violence accompanying the crime in recent times and any measures introduced in an effort to address this are not only appreciated, but also very necessary – we live in challenging times and there is no point in denying it!
I, too, will be somewhat inconvenienced by the proposed reduction of the access points to our suburb from “27 to only six”, but surely this is a small price to pay for the additional security for ones loved ones and peace of mind as has been proved in the suburbs of Alphen Park, Lakefield and Westdene?
Closure is not intended to address the delinquent behaviour of unsavoury and problematic neighbours, but then there are other avenues available to address such matters.
I take my hat off to Manny Ferreirinha and his team for relentlessly pursuing this matter (and those preceding it) in the interest of all the residents, including the “freeloaders”, who will, inevitably, find some reason not to come on board and even resist it.
