I am a regular reader of the Benoni City Times and find it most useful in keeping up-to-date with the happenings in and around the city.
A trend that has developed is the reporting of accidents, with all reports containing more-or-less the same comments.
What is missing is a crime report, which I know could take up several pages, but which I believe is of far more importance and use than accident reporting.
I sincerely believe that you have an obligation to your readers and the public at large to keep them informed of all the serious crime that takes place in the city.
The number of armed robberies in residential areas alone is most concerning and most of this is not reported on by you.
I feel the public needs to be aware of the areas being targeted, and the modus operandi of the robbers.
It would be helpful if you published some guidelines on how to prevent becoming a victim, how to react if you are subjected to an armed robbery and how to get help.
This will not only keep the public aware and alert, but also keep the SAPS under pressure to solve these crimes and give them the opportunity to enlighten the public on how they are dealing with the matter.
Editor’s note: The Benoni City Times appreciates your interest in our newspaper.
We publish regular crime pages, which also feature tips from the police on how to prevent and deal with a variety of incidents of crime.
The crime news we publish is dependent on information we receive from the police and is published within space constraints in the paper.
Further stories are published on the Benoni City Times title site, www.benonicitytimes.co.za.
As with accidents, we are not able to publish a comprehensive list of crime in Benoni in our newspaper.
