Korsmans dog walking and the killjoys

Karen Mills writes by email:

For many years I have been walking two yellow Labradors at the bird sanctuary.

I am one of many, including a variety of joggers and cyclists, who make up a seemingly harmonious group.

Now I freely admit that for the most part my dogs walk off leads, however, I carry their leads and put them on if there are a lot of dogs, people, children, etc.

For the past year or so there has been one middle-aged couple who cycle around the pan who take offence to my dogs, for who knows what reason, given that I am on the pavement and they are on the road.

Over time they have become more and more confrontational and have taken to shouting abuse and telling me to put my dogs on leads.

Today they not only shouted abuse, but have now also taken my photograph and threatened to lay charges of breaking by-laws.

I told them to stuff off and have given them all my details, but they declined my address!

Clearly they feel that enjoyment of the pan is restricted to them.

Given that there was one other jogger who I passed in the whole time I was there, and my dogs were at my side all the time, I really fail to see why these two killjoys feel the need to be the self-appointed dog lead policemen!

I know it is probably against a by-law, but is it really doing any harm?
