Masters bring home medals
A combination squad of South African masters hockey players from around the country, which included 14 players who play for Benoni hockey clubs, recently returned home with three medals from the World Masters Games in Torino, Italy.


The World Master Games is an international sport event, attracting tens of thousands of athletes (over the age of 35) from all over the world.
The overall hockey team named SA Mufasa consisted of three men’s and two women’s teams.
The SA Mufasa 40 to 45 age group men’s team brought home bronze from the tournament, the 40 to 45 age group women’s team won silver and the men’s 50 to 55 age group team also achieved silver at the games.
The hockey finals were held in Bra about 50kms outside of Torino.
The competition was very strong and the men and women who represented the country did well to bring home the medals.
The World Masters Games are held every four years and Auckland, New Zealand, will host the event in 2017.
