Guinness confirm Tigers’ world record
The world authority on records gives Action Cricketers' record the thumbs-up.
It’s official.
Benoni has a Guinness World Record in the bag.
That’s right, Benoni (Easterns) Tigers Action Cricket, whose 16-player squad (two teams of eight) played Action Cricket for 26 consecutive hours, at the Benoni Action Arena, in late September, have had their attempt for “the longest marathon playing indoor cricket” approved by the authority on world records, Guinness, on Thursday, November 13.
Following a payment to fast-track the record review process the Tigers can now officially call themselves record-breakers pending the delivery of the official world record certificate.
Organiser Craig Thomson is, like the entire Tigers team, thrilled with the confirmation of their record.
“Everybody is over the moon with the announcement,” he said.
“We did everything by the book and here we are, in November – a year since we came up with the concept – with a Guinness World Record to our name.”
According to Thomson, the Tigers boys are already asking what the next challenge is going to be.
Their initial goal, to raise funds for some of the players (mostly matriculants in 2015) to embark on a nationwide “farewell” tour, next year, to play against other provincial teams, will go ahead, with the team’s sights set on Nelspruit, Potchefstroom and Cape Town.
When asked if they would undertake a record attempt again, Thomson replied: “Absolutely, the boys would do it again tomorrow if they could.
“If somebody breaks this record anytime soon we will have to do it again.
“We would certainly be better prepared for those tough early morning dips and we believe we could set a target of more than 30 hours.”
Thomson expressed his gratitude to everybody who made the record attempt a success.
