Seven sticks for Steyn

Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s (BNCC) 21-year-old fast bowler, Aidan Steyn, produced a fantastic display with the cherry on Saturday, January 10.

The Airfield resident returned phenomenal career-best figures of seven wickets for 17 runs in seven overs and, sticking with the theme, sent down seven wides, as Northerns crushed Sunward Park in their Easterns Saturday First League encounter, in Boksburg.

Steyn’s figures are believed to be the second best return for a BNCC bowler in limited overs cricket after Jaco Kruger picked up eight sticks for 20 runs in ten overs in a Promotion League match in the 2013/2014 season.

Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) architecture student Steyn, who also had a catch put down off his bowling during the one-sided game, was virtually unplayable on a poor pitch as the Benoni side annihilated their hosts, bowling them out for just 31 runs as they attempted to chase down Northerns’ 199 in the 50-over match.
