Major As back in business

Benoni Northerns Indians Ball Club’s Major A baseball team returned to action on Sunday, February 1, when the Summer Ball season commenced, after the festive break.

The team took on Stars, from Alexandra, and won the clash 9-5.

According to head coach Ashley Scott, the team looked slightly rusty in their first game of the year, but said they showed positive signs.

“Our batters were a bit slow, but our pitchers threw nicely,” he said.

“Byron Hennessy, in particular, threw quite well.”

The head coach himself became a bit more involved in the game than he would have anticipated, when the umpire tossed him out of the game, following an argument about a play.

He could face a two-game suspension following the incident.

Other than that, Scott is confident that the team will improve as the season continues.

“There is still a good chance that we can win both the league and cup,” he said.
