Residents urged to help runners with litter

The race starts at Benoni Northerns Sport Club with the 42.2km at 06:30, 21.1km at 06:45 and 10km at 07:00

There are only a few days left before the Benoni Northerns Marathon, sponsored by Kwikscaff, kicks off on July 3.

The Benoni Northerns Athletic Club is appealing to residents who live around the marathon route to help keep the race clean by leaving their wheelie bins on their street pavements for the runners to dispose of their litter.

“If your home is located on the race route, go outside on Sunday and cheer on the runners. It’s awesome encouragement, especially for those trying to qualify for the Comrades Marathon.

“The race is a proudly-local event, with members of the club working together to make it happen, while local people will be volunteering to host water stations,” said organiser Kerry Webb.

The race starts at Benoni Northerns Sport Club with 42.2km at 06:30, 21.1km at 06:45 and 10km at 07:00.
