Enjoy beer for Africa at the Emperors Festival

Emperors Palace believes it is a lot easier to start the day when you know it will end with an ice cold beer.

It is no coincidence that beer rhymes with cheer, and they will prove exactly that at the Food, Drink and Music Festival, from August 28 to 31.

Featuring a massive beer house, Brewers Lane, an amusement park, more than 60 food stands and a number of fun family activities, Emperors Palace will be the only place to be at the end of the month.

Officially opening to the public on Thursday, August 28, Brewers Lane will be one of the event highlights, where malt fanatics will be able to sample, buy and enjoy the finest beer South Africa’s craft beer makers have to offer.

Brew masters will inspire all with their in-depth beer knowledge, while guests will be able to try their hand at making beer by purchasing their own kits to take home.

Craft breweries exhibiting include Chameleon Breweries, Smack Republic Breweries and Windermere Breweries, to name but a few.

Brewers Lane will open into the great Beer House, aka “Dad’s Spot”, where sports fans and music lovers will be entertained for hours.

Screens will be placed strategically throughout the festival, where avid rugby supporters will be able to watch their favourite game.

Enjoy a variety of food and drink in the biggest beer house in town, where big bands will entertain visitors with music such as laid back jazz, blue grass, country, reggae and rock.

Here are three bubbly facts you didn’t know about our nation’s love for beer:

1. South Africa accounts for 34 per cent of Africa’s formal beer market, and we’re expected to grow by 10 per cent annually over the next five years.

2. The most beer consumed in our country is lager, perfect for our hot climate.

3. There is a large trend in the home-brewing community throughout the country; home-brewers meet on a monthly basis to discuss brewing techniques and the like and now beer fans can meet at Brewers Lane, at the Emperors Food Festival.

Entry will be free for children under the age of 12.

The festival will present a fusion of culinary experiences and sensory delights, created for those who want to escape to Eden for a day.

The festival will be open on Thursday and Friday from 4pm to 10.30pm, Saturday from 11am to 10.30pm, and on Sunday from 10am to 6pm.
