Non-profit organisation calls for people to get involved in meditation campaign

International, non-profit, educational and humanitarian organisation, The Art of Living, is calling on people to participate in their I Meditate Africa campaign by reaching out to their trained teachers and volunteers to learn about their wellness sessions which use yoga, breathwork and meditation as tools for building inner strength and resilience.

GLOBAL non-profit organisation The Art of Living is calling on schools, companies and individuals to take part in their I Meditate Campaign which the organisation says promotes inner peace through meditation as part of peace-building and unity for the continent.

“The Art of Living Foundation is an international, non-profit, educational and humanitarian organisation founded in 1981 by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. Our educational and self-development programmes offer powerful tools to eliminate stress and foster a sense of well-being. These programmes have touched the lives of over 450 million and have a presence in over 180 countries. In 1997, Gurudev also founded the International Association for Human Values (IAHV) to coordinate sustainable development projects, nurture human values and coordinate conflict resolution,” explained Kalay Moodley, KZN regional coordinator for the I Meditate Africa Campaign.

Moodley says The Art of Living Foundation has several branches across Durban in Chatsworth, Durban North, uMhlanga, Phoenix, Hillcrest, Durban Central and Overport.

“The Art of Living has trained teachers and volunteers who facilitate educational and self-development programmes with powerful and practical tools to eliminate stress and foster a sense of well-being. The International Association for Human Values (IAHV) provides for relief work to underprivileged communities which are all done through our warriors who put every ounce of their heart into this work to uplift human values and bring more smiles to our planet,” said Moodley.

What is the I Meditate Campaign?

Moodley says that since its inception in 2013, the I Meditate Africa campaign has reached close to 10 million people across more than 35 countries in Africa and over 120 countries globally, promoting inner peace through meditation as part of peace-building and unity for the continent.

“I Meditate Africa is a peace initiative by the Art of Living Foundation and the International Association of Human Values. I Meditate Africa aims to make meditation a part of our daily lives on the continent, and to lead us in a new direction that places human dignity at the centre of all policy considerations. Meditation nourishes a sense of belonging to our common humanity,” said Moodley.

She explained that meditation offers numerous benefits, including stress reduction, improved focus, enhanced well-being and better decision-making. “Collective meditation has a ripple effect of peace and can positively impact societal well-being and conflict resolution.”

How to get involved

On May 24, global peace ambassador Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will be facilitating a live interactive session and a peace meditation with the African continent. “Every individual seeking peace and growth for Africa is invited to join this session,” said Moodley.

“As we build momentum to the main event taking place on May 24, we’re encouraging people, schools and businesses to contact any Art of Living Centre and invite one of their trained teachers and volunteers to facilitate wellness sessions using yoga, breathwork and meditation as tools for building inner strength and resilience. They can also attend the event on May 24, between 15:00 to 17:00, at the Nelson Mandela Community Youth Centre,” said Moodley.
