Good arrests

  • A MAN was arrested for house breaking and theft in Ridge Road last Wednesday.

Berea SAPS crime prevention received a complaint of a house breaking in progress and responded.

On arrival they searched the premises and discovered the door was open and entered the house. They heard a noise in the ceiling and when one of the members looked in the ceiling they found a man hiding there.

He was charged with house breaking and theft.

  • A MAN was arrested for common robbery on Steve Biko Road last Thursday.

A woman was walking along the road when the man came up behind her and stole her cellphone.

She screamed and Const Hlabalala, Const Sibeko, Const Ngcobo and Const Ndaba who were patrolling nearby responded, apprehended the man and recovered her cellphone.

  • CRIME prevention members, Sgt Pillay, Sgt Dennis, Const Dorasamy and Const Naicker were at the intersection of Botanic Gardens and Steve Biko Roads when they noticed three suspicious-looking men in a vehicle.

They approached the men and searched them and the car. They found a large amount of dagga in the car and arrested the men for possession.

Eight people were arrested in a cluster operation with members from Berea SAPS, Durban North SAPS, Durban Central and Point on Friday. Four were arrested for dagga and four drunken drivers were arrested.

Warnings

There have been a number of mugging incidents reported. According to Lt Poobalan Naidoo, people are urged not walk and talk on their cellphone as they may become a target of a robbery.

  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • If you are going away over the long weekend, lock up your property and activate your alarm.
  • When going to parties, have a designated driver, don’t drink and drive or you will be charged.
