Umbilo police recover stolen diesel

Umbilo police recorded some good successes with the recovery of 20 drums of diesel while patrolling the streets this week.

UMBILO police members hit the streets on patrol this past week and notched up some more successes.

According to Umbilo Communications Officer Sergeant Beverley Manqele, on Monday 5 August, at about 2.30 am, members patrolling along South Coast Road noticed a suspicious blue Nissan hard body and stopped it. “Upon searching it, they found 20 drums each carrying 25 litres of diesel. When police asked the accused to account for the diesel, he replied he had bought it from a friend but could not produce a receipt.,” Manqele said.

The man remained silent when police requested to go visit the friend he purchased the diesel from and this led to his arrest. The man was detained.

On Sunday, 4 August at around 11.30pm when members were patrolling along Dalton Road, they spotted three suspicious men carrying big bags. “When they saw the police, they dropped the bags and ran in the opposite direction,” said Manqele. Police chased and caught one man. Upon questioning him he failed to account for the bag which contained an assortment of ladies underwear valued at approximately R1000. The man was arrested and detained for being in possession of stolen property.

The station also received three broken plasma TVs and one jug kettle which was found abandoned by a security company. “The TVs were damaged. We await community members to come in to open a case of robbery as the the property is being held in our exhibit room,” said Manqele.
