Operation Disrupt hits Warwick Triangle

Police forces came together in a joint operation on Friday afternoon to stop illegal activity in the vicinity of the Warwick Triangle.

BEREA police, together with the Central Durban police cluster including Point police the SAPS Tactical Response Team and Metro Police, banded together in a joint operation on Friday afternoon to stop illegal activity in the vicinity of Warwick Triangle.

Berea Mail accompanied the police as they were briefed by head of the operation Colonel Swanepoel of Durban Central SAPS. Swanepoel said it was a disruptive operation, which was aimed at disrupting all illegal activity ahead of the weekend.

Many of the incidents of assault and domestic violence reported to police are attributed to alcohol abuse according to Swanepoel. He added that it was a priority to make sure no alcohol was sold to workers going home from work for the weekend at the rank.

The members were quick to search the taxi rank near Mansfield Road. All police members had a buddy system to partner and search making sure that illegal activity was stopped in its tracks.

During the operation police found people selling alcohol illegally disguised under fruit and vegetable stalls, pirated DVDs and dagga was also found abandoned at stalls.

Many taxis were fined for not having rank permits during the operation. Lieutenant PN Naidoo, Communications Officer for Berea police said the operations were ongoing throughout the weekend and will continue intermittently in the coming weeks.
