Marist girls hear pope speak in Rio

Rosland and Rene go to Rio to make disciples of all peoples.

ST Henry’s Marist College student, Rosland Forbay and her sister, Rene, were among the flood of young people from around the globe responding to the call to ‘Go and make disciples of all peoples’, the theme of World Youth Day 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in July.

The two Durban girls were excited to see hundreds of thousands of Catholic youth coming together to learn how to respond to the challenge to make Jesus Christ relevant to their peers. They were part of the almost three million-strong crowd which descended on the famed Copacabana Beach to hear an address by Pope Francis.

Rosland found her trip up Corcovado Mountain, to view the statue of Christ the Redeemer towering over the city below, very stirring.
