POLICE are seeking the whereabouts of a man wanted in connection with the murder and robbery of an Umbilo resident.
Captain Thulani Zwane, provincial police spokesman said a reward of up to R15 000 is being offered to anyone with information which may lead to the arrest and conviction of Lebo Sibisi, who is wanted for the resident’s murder and robbery.
Speaking of the incident which took place a year ago, Zwane said, “The deceased was shot and killed on 14 September 2012 during a house robbery at his house in Wanless Road in Umbilo. Two suspects including Lebo Sibisi were arrested following police investigation and the release of Lebo on bail was successfully opposed in the Durban Magistrates’ Court.”
During the subsequent court appearance of the accused on 23 January this year, a clerical error occurred and the detention warrant of Lebo Sibisi erroneously reflected that bail of R5000 was payable for his release. “The bail amount was paid and Lebo was later freed by the authorities. He never appeared in court after his release and a warrant for his arrest was issued,” Zwane added.
Police believe Sibisi is in hiding in the Eastern Cape and anyone with information of his whereabouts is urged to contact the investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer Govender on 031 3255756 or 0795000763.
