AN Umbilo businesswoman is outraged after ‘filthy’ robbers broke into her flat and dirtied her home before ransacking and stealing her possessions.
Muke Mhlongo told Berea Mail she felt the culprits could be someone close to her because they had only taken specific items. “They took my cellphone which I always leave at home, this has photos of my recently deceased mother, and my celllphone charger and earrings as well as a new stereo system that I recently purchased,” said Mhlongo.
Mhlongo was out of town at a family function in Empangeni when she received a “Please call me”, message from a neighbour and was devastated to return to find her Nerina Court flat in “an absolute mess!”
Mhlongo admits she is a bit of a clean freak and was outraged when she saw muddy footprints over her cream bedroom carpet. “I have an obsession with cleanliness and don’t even walk on my carpets with shoes on, so this was so upsetting. It looked as if they just walked and rubbed their dirty shoes on all my cream carpets,” she said.
“This is not the work of some whoonga boys, they would have taken all my appliances,” she said.
The robbers ransacked her room then jumped back out of the window and broke the other burglar guards to her balcony/ work station as her bedroom door was locked.
“They put more black sand on my other carpets in the house. I am a businesswoman and travel and need to ensure that my home is safe. I won’t rest until the culprits are found, they are out here and did not need a passport to get here so I will make sure the police assist me. I have had to install an alarm system and will have to get the council to fix my burglar guards.
“This has been a traumatic experience and just shows that our society is getting very sick. I have never bothered or hurt anyone so don’t understand where this barbarism and hatred comes from,” she added.
Umbilo police are investigating a case of housebreaking.
