TRUMPET-playing pupil at St Henry’s Marist College, Gregory Brouckaert, was part of the KZN Youth Orchestra which travelled to Bremen, Germany in September.
The first concert was an open air affair, broadcast on German TV, with an audience of between 10 000 and 20 000 who were hugely appreciative of the musicians ‘out of Africa’ who were collaborating with their own Bremen Youth Orchestra. The KZNYO did two more concerts on their own in Weimar and Jena, where they received standing ovations.
This is the first overseas concert tour for this orchestra . Feedback from the organizers in Germany mentioned that orchestra members were good ambassadors for Durban and South Africa.
