DURBAN High School held its annual senior Speech Day awards ceremony and final assembly for its Grade 12 pupils last week. The guest speaker was DHS old boy, Brigadier Vernon Stokes who gave an inspirational speech to the parents, staff body, headmaster and pupils.
A number of awards were received by the pupils with the main awards being the CG Hands Memorial Prize for Dux awarded to Julian Janse van Rensburg, the GB Lapinsky Prize for Dux Proxime Accessit (Dux runner up) awarded to Nirav Beni and the Kessel Feinstein prize for third in Grade 12 awarded to Nicholas Conyngham. The Sportsman of the Year Award was awarded to Reneshan Naidoo and the All Round Sports Achiever of the Year Award went to Taylor Kelly-Stack.
Julian Janse van Renburg not only received Dux of 2013, but also received a Merit Certificate, the Niekie Gerber Prize for Afrikaans First Additional Language, the Buxton Family Prize for Economics, the Transvaal Old Boys’ Prize for English Essay and the ‘SAS’ Nourse prize for Geography.
