Prayer service for SAPS

Berea police were treated to a prayer day service by members of the Combined churches of Berea Adopt-a-Cop prayer group.

BEREA SAPS held its annual prayer day service ahead of the festive season on Friday, 8 November.

The Combined Churches on the Berea started the Adopt-a-Cop Prayer Group nearly twenty years ago. Louise Molyneaux, chair of the group said the group gets together for an hour every month at St Olaves Church where they pray for police members working at Berea SAPS. “We just pray for the issues that affect police. We pray for unity amongst them, for more resources, like vehicles and other things needed as well as individuals needing prayer.”

The prayer group also prays daily for members of the Berea police force. Each member has a list of names for policement they pray for.

“They are instruments of peace, sacrificing their lives and time for the safety of our people so need prayer, especially with the festive season around the corner,” added Molyneaux.

Rev Peter Wessels gave a short sermon before the members were treated to tasty treats made by the prayer group members.

Colonel Nathaniel Kweyama, Station Commander at Berea SAPS, said after the service, “When you are in the SAPS and you see a community like this one come, pray and say thank you to the police like this it is really special.”

Lt PN Naidoo, Communications Officer at Berea said, “Management and staff of Berea greatly appreciate the good gesture and a big thank you goes out to Louis and the ladies for making this prayer day a success. Members are very grateful for their time, effort and dedicated prayers.”
