BEREA police were on the beat last week and notched up a string of arrests.
Woman robbed
On Tuesday, 12 November, at 3.20pm a woman was walking along St Thomas Road when she was approached by two unknown men who threatened her with a bottle and robbed her of her Adidas bag containing personal items. Lieutenant PN Naidoo, Communications Officer at Berea SAPS, said the suspects fled and the woman called the police. “Two kids came to her assistance, they also followed the suspects and together with the police arrested the suspects,” he said.
The two men were charged with robbery and detained at Berea SAPS. The stolen property was recovered and returned to the woman.
Washing line theft
A man was arrested for theft of clothing from his neighbours line last Wednesday, 13 November. According to Lt PN Naidoo, the man noticed that the washing that he had put out was missing and was also being used by someone in the complex.
The man called the police and after they questioned the suspect and it was established that the suspect stole the complainant’s clothes. The suspect was charged for theft and detained at Berea SAPS.
Campus TV thief arrested
A man was arrested for theft at DUT after trying to steal at TV from the canteen last Thursday.
According to Lt PN Naidoo, the man climbed through a window at the canteen at DUT and removed aTV off the wall and was noticed by the security gaurd who called the police. “The security guard together with police arrested the suspect and recovered the TV. “The suspect was charged for housebreaking and theft and detained at Berea.”
Man arrested for trying to sell stolen vehicle
A man was arrested for being in possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle in Musgrave Road last week.
Lt PN Naidoo said police had received information that the vehicle was seen in Berea, as an arrangement had been made for someone to purchase the vehicle at Musgrave Road. When the suspect arrived he was arrested and the vehicle impounded.”
Naidoo said the vehicle a VW Polo was wanted on a Newlands case.
Jewellery thief caught in the act
A man was arrested for theft after he broke into a jewellery store in Windermere on Monday, 18 November.
“The man stole six watches and was seen by the security guard who called the police who arrested the suspect and recovered the property.” said Naidoo.
The suspect was arrested for housebreaking and theft and detained at Berea SAPS.
