BEREA police have made inroads this past week in fighting crime.

Man arrested for attempted murder after golf club beating

A man was arrested for attempted murder after beating another man with a golf club last Thursday, 24 November.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, Berea police Communications Officer, the complainant was at his work premises on Musgrave Road when he was called to a nearby worksite. “The suspect reminded the complainant of an incident which occurred on the 10 November when the complainant allegedly sprayed the suspect’s shoes with water with a hosepipe while he was passing by. The suspect then started hitting the vctim on the head with a golf stick until it broke,” said Naidoo.

The victim sustained serious injuries and had to be taken to hospital for treatment while the suspect was arrested for attempted murder when police arrived at the scene.

Steel pipe theft

A man was arrested for theft after jumping into a Musgrave property and stealing steel pipes.

According to Lt PN Naidoo, a neighbour saw the suspect jump over the fence and informed the police. “Police responded and arrested the suspect. The owner had to come to the police station to identify his property.”

Robbers arrested

Two suspects were arrested for house robbery in Musgrave Road on Friday afternoon, 22 November when police caught them red handed hiding in a store room.

According to Lt PN Naidoo, the domestic worker was home alone when she noticed the suspects entering the premises. “She went downstairs and saw one of the suspects standing by the kitchen door. She approached him to ask what he wanted and he grabbed and pushed her onto the kitchen floor,” said Naidoo.

The woman was tied down using a belt and a tie from the home and threatened not to move or they would shoot her. “While the suspects moved through the house taking stuff they were unaware that a security guard on the road had seen them enter the property and called the police. When police arrived and asked for the suspects, the traumatised woman pointed to the direction they had headed in. The suspects were found hiding in a store room and were arrested,” said Naidoo.

Man arrested for cocaine possession

A man was arrested for possession of cocaine outside a garage in Avondale Road after he was stopped and searched. The suspect was behaving suspiciously.

26 arrested for drunk driving

An operation held by Berea SAPS and RTI members on Friday, 22 November raked in 26 drunken drivers who were arrested during a roadblock. “People must take note that there will be zero tolerance of drunken driving especially over the festive season,” said Lt PN Naidoo.
