St Henry’s pupils well represented on Youth Council

St Henry's pupils are well represented on the Durban Youth Council.

ST Henry’s Marist College’s emphasis on service to the community has, over several years, seen a significant number of its Grade 11 pupils filling top positions on the Durban Youth Council. At the inauguration ceremony of the 2014 council at the BAT Centre recently, the 2013 council handed over to new council members. Once again, a St Henry’s pupil stepped into a position of great responsibility as Amy van der Merwe was named Deputy Mayor.

At the ceremony several top awards were received by the College members of the Council.

Savannah Cozzi, Graham Bishai and Michael Ross were awarded the Alderman Certificate for true service above self to the Council. Savannah, also received the President’s Award in recognition of her establishing and building external relationships for the DYC. The Furguson Shield was awarded to Michael for his pursuit of excellence in individual growth and development. Graham was presented the Bill Ward Award for outstanding spirit, passion and commitment. He was also director of the committee whose portfolio was HIV and Humanities and which was recognized as the Committee of the Year for excellence in achievement.

Four of the 40 schools represented on the Council were recognised in the School Award for their consistent and excellent contributions to the DYC and all 6 of the DYC councillors representing St Henry’s during 2013 received the Award: Blair Miller; Wesley Gace; Liam Ward; Graham Bishai; Michael Ross and Savannah Cozzi.
