BEREA police have made headway in the fight against crime this past week.

Cellphone thief arrested

A man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property on Monday 25 November.

According to Berea SAPS Communications Officer, Lieutenant PN Naidoo, Constable M Kubheka was on crime prevention duty in civilian clothes, patrolling along Botanic Gardens Road when he saw a man behaving suspiciously. “He stopped and searched the suspect and found a cellphone suspected to be stolen. The suspect could not explain where he got the cellphone from and could not operate the cellphone because it was not his,” said Naidoo.

Drug dealer nabbed

Constable BN Mkhize was on crime prevention duties in civilian clothes on Monday 25 November when he received information about a man who was dealing drugs in the Warwick Avenue area. “He proceeded to the scene and found the suspect who fit the description. Upon searching the suspect, he was found with drugs in his possession and arrested,” he said.

Thief caught in tracks

Berea police and Chubb Security were able to catch a thief before he could make a getaway with items after breaking into a car on Cowey Road.

Lt Naidoo said late on Monday night, 25 November a man in Cowey Road had been awoken from his sleep after a neighbour alerted him to someone in his yard.

The man contacted Chubb security who together with Berea police quickly apprehended the suspect.

“The man noticed his rear passenger window was smashed although, nothing had been taken because the thief had been disturbed,” added Naidoo.

Possession of jamming device

A man was arrested for possession of car breaking implements on Avondale Road on Monday, 26 November.

Members of Berea police were on duty patrolling when they stopped and searched two suspicious men on Avondale Road. “One suspect had a car jamming device in his pocket and was arrested,” said Naidoo.
