Back to school fever is sweeping across Durban as parents rush to buy school uniforms and stationery in preparation for the first school term of 2014 which starts next week.

Gem Schoolwear in Overport once again proved to be a popular one-stop shop for most parents with schoolgoing children who stood in long queues and crowded the store in an attempt to purchase everything they needed in school uniforms under one roof.
Manager, Muhammed Patel, said Gem was proud that all garments sold at the shop were made in South Africa, and that the outlet was a proudly South African company. “We’ve been busy as always with people leaving the shopping until the last minute,” he said.
Parents kitting out children for school will have to dig deep in pockets already reeling from the festive season overspend. Boys’school shorts will set you back between R50 and R60, trousers from R95 to R140, short sleeved shirts from R45 to R67, long sleeved shirts from R51 to R73, socks at R18 and specialised socks at R38 a pair. Speedos cost between R135 to R165, Gem’s speedos from R80 to R90, shoes from R160 to R220, ties at R25 and blazers from R250 to R370.
Girls skirts range between R85 and R90, long sleeved shirts from R45 to R67, short sleeved shirts from R45 to R67, swimming costumes from R215 to R245, Gem’s costumes from R110 to R120, girls shoes from R160 to R190, girls white socks at R15 and white polycotton dresses from R65 to R90.
