Man shot in armed robbery
A Chinese national was shot in an armed robbery in Glenwood last Monday.
According to Sergeant Beverly Manqele, Communications Officer at Umbilo SAPS, the man had withdrawn R20 000 worth of cash at a local shopping centre before he was robbed.
“The man drove to a premises on Crommwel Drive less than a kilometre from the bank and when he parked and got out of his vehicle, he was approached by two men. The men allegedly had a firearm and shot him in the thigh before fleeing with the cash,” she said.
Help identify culpable homicide victim
Umbilo police appeal to the anyone who may have witnessed an accident which occurred on New Year’s eve where an 18-year-old man was killed. Police are also calling on the teenager’s family to come forward.
“We responded to the scene at Warwick Avenue after people called 1011 to say that the body of a man who had been knocked down, was lying on his back. Paramedics declared the man dead on scene. After members searched his pockets, they found his ID document but no address,” she said.
“The youngster’s name is Phakamisa Ntholi and he suffered injuries to his head, a fractured left leg and bruises all over. He was taken to Gale Street mortuary and detectives are trying to get hold of his family,” she said.
According to police nobody has come forward to report the accident so Umbilo police are encouraging witnesses or relatives of the deceased to contact Detective Warrant Officer SP Ganas on 083 960 1634.
