Police recover student’s stolen laptop

Alert Berea policemen were able to arrest a robber and return a stolen laptop to a DUT student and recover cellphones and wallets.

ONGOING reports of theft at DUT were finally put to bed after the arrest of one of the suspects and the imminent arrest of another.

According to Berea SAPS Communications Officer, Lieutenant PN Naidoo, the university security contacted police about a suspect who was stealing cellphones and wallets from students. In the most recent incident a student was awoken when a man tried to take his laptop while he was sleeping at Stratford Hall residence.

“After investigations, a suspect was arrested on Friday morning. After searching the man, he was found in possession of a laptop, two cellphones and three wallets. The suspect admitted to stealing one wallet and one cellphone but said the rest of the items were given to him by a second suspect.”

The man was charged with theft and the laptop was returned to the student. Police have details of the second suspect and are expecting to make an arrest soon.
