Arrests by Umbilo SAPS

Cases are all impending investigation by Umbilo Detectives.

UMBILO SAPS made good arrests over the past week.

On 3 February at 1.30pm, officers arrested a 17-year-old man at Dalton Road for possession of dagga.

The police were patrolling when they noticed the man walking along the road. They stopped him and asked to search him. He had four parcels of dagga wrapped in a newspaper, valued at R150, in his possession.

Another 44-year-old man was stopped at Dalton Road, and upon searching him, the officers found one slope of dagga weighing less than a kilogram, wrapped in newspaper in his possession. The man was also charged for possession of dagga.

According to Const Beverly Manqele from Umbilo SAPS, it is illegal to be in possession of drugs, it does not matter how small the amount may be. “Taking drugs affects the thinking ability of a human being. The station is saying no to drugs,” she said.

On 2 February at 4.25pm, the officers arrested a 21-year-old man for common robbery.

A 14-year-old girl was robbed of her cell phone, a Blackberry 9300, valued at R2000, while walking in Hillier Road, Umbilo.

She was approached by a man who grabbed her cell phone demanding that she hand it to him. She held on tight to the phone, and the man kicked her until she let go. He took it and an away. The girl started screaming for help, and members of the public chased and caught the suspect, who was arrested and charged for common robbery by Umbilo SAPS officers.

On 2 February, Umbilo SAPS officers were conducting crime prevention duties when they noticed people coming in and out of a certain house in Sydney Road.

They held observation, suspecting dealing in liquor was taking place at the house.

The officers went to investigate and discovered that a woman was dealing in liquor, and found a number of sealed bottles of liquor in the house.

She was arrest for dealing in liquor.

The arrested suspects appeared before Durban magistrate court, cases are pending investigation by SAPS Umbilo Detectives.
