Crime awareness tips

Berea police share a few crime tips that might help avoid a dangerous situation.

BEREA police have noticed that some victims of crime are reporting crimes very late and encourage all complainants to note it is very important to report a crime as soon as possible because all possible clues and evidence could be obtained from fingerprints and footprints. “Late reporting of crime makes the task of the investigating officer very difficult to investigate because vital evidence is lost, ” said Berea Communications Officer Lt PN Naidoo.

After reports of cellphones, wallets and laptops stolen from high flats, Naidoo encouraged all residents in higher buildings to ensure that windows are always closed as thieves are climbing up gutters and pipes to get into homes. “Don’t expose yourself or belongings to becoming a victim.

“Always be alert when on the road, do not park in dark areas where it is easy for your vehicle to be taken. Always make sure your vehicle is properly locked and do not leave valuables such as cellphones, clothing, laptops visible in your vehicle, in fact they should not be left in the vehicle at all,” he advised.
