Security guard held up
A security guard was held up by three men who wanted his firearm in the Musgrave area on Friday, 21 February. According to Lt Naidoo the guard did not have a firearm. “The suspects pointed a firearm at him and threatened him before driving off in a silver Audi. The guard managed to get the registration number of the vheilce and submitted it when he opened a case at SAPS Berea on the same day,” said Naidoo.
Captain Kevin Stephen and his team followed up and three young suspects in their early twenties were arrested in Pietermaritzburg. “The firearm, a gas pistol, was also recovered,” he added.

Lt Naidoo warned students to be aware of scams at DUT regarding fees payments. “Only pay at the cash office and obtain a receipt. Also be aware of renting scams and do not deposit money into anyone’s account until everything is verified as scams are rife,” he said.
