OpenView HD hosts star-studded meet and greet

The stars came out to play at Openview HD meet and greet recently.

OPENVIEW HD took over Cape Town with a star-studded meet and greet held at the lush Vergelegen Wine Estate in Somerset West which Berea Mail attended last weekend.

The event was an opportunity for media to engage with popular OpenView HD channel personalities, who in their five months on OpenView HD screens, are steadily building a loyal following on their various programmes.

Platco Digital launched South Africa’s first, and only, free HD Satellite Television platform which gives South Africans access to a wide variety of channels, with no monthly subscription fees.

The day began with a quick visit to the Platco Digital’s uplink facility, at the Cape Town Film Studios where guests were introduced to Platco’s ground-breaking technology which affords viewers the high definition viewing they enjoy on the OpenView HD platform. Once the introductions to the technical side of the platform were concluded, the party moved to Vergelegen Wine Estate. Biker personalities from OpenView HD’s latest offering, motorcycle lifestyle channel BiCars, surprised the group with bike rides on Harley’s and superbikes and even offered to take lucky guests to the venue on their motorbikes.

Amongst the OpenView HD personalities in attendance were ASTV’s Dokter My Jacques Botes, V-Jay Ntombi Ngcobo from Gumba Gumba, Katch it with Khanyi’s talk show host Khanyi Mbau, Bonnie Mbuli and Bongo Mbutuma, representing the new police drama Traffic! and Faizal Sayed of The Faizal Sayed show on Deen TV.

The star of the day, however, was the incredible lunch cooked up by Kasi-licious chef Katlego Mlambo – a meal best described as haute cuisine meets Kasi – a delicious mix of homestyle dishes artfully blended with some of South Africa’s finest wines. A rising star on South Africa’s culinary landscape, Katlego hosts Kasi-licious cooking show on eKasi +, where accompanied by a guest, he travels to different township eateries and dines on their specialties. His challenge is then to replicate that dish in his own kitchen – which leads to some serious culinary adventures.

“I like to think of food as an adventure – a playground” said Katlego, “Sometimes we get too serious about it, and don’t want to move out of the box or break the rules. For me, there’s absolutely nothing wrong in taking the dishes that we grew up on and remixing them a bit. There’s some incredible eating experiences to be had in townships, and it’s a delight for me to showcase that every week on the show!”

“OpenView HD has curated an exciting, content-rich selection of offerings for our viewers” said Platco Digital MD Max Nonge, “From our dramas, to lifestyle, spirituality shows, through to educational programme – there is literally something for everyone on the OpenView HD platform. Equally important for us, we are utilising the services of some of South Africa’s best production houses – growing the local TV industry and using local skills and talent. The excellence of this combination shines through on the screens, and we’re looking forward to offering South Africa even more.”

Nonge was happy explain how OverView HD satellite television was free after purchasing a satellite dish. “Our sustainability is simple, we provide the platform and the channels pay us to be on this platform. Satellite tv is digital and flexible and has the capacity to carry a lot of channels. We are looking at getting more channels available to viewers,” he said.
