City introduces online payments for customers in arrears

Municipal customers can now pay accounts via EFT, Internet transfers, direct debit and debit order payments.

MUNICIPAL customers in debt are now able to make payments safer and easier via EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer), Internet transfers, direct debit and debit order payments.

Due to a steady increase of customers fraudulently producing EFT proof of payments to the municipality for their arrear accounts, the municipality has introduced a system for all these payments.

Only proof of payments from customers will be accepted. This will be verified where applicable for authenticity through the submitting bank’s website.

Where no verification can be done, a waiting period in line with the financial institutions' transfer standards will be applicable.

All reconnection requests where services have been disconnected will only be actioned once payments have been cleared and or receipted to the respective consumer accounts.

“Customers whose accounts are in arrears are encouraged to pay at our online sites in our banking halls, should they opt to use the above EFT payment method, it will be subjected to a waiting period as indicated above,” said Sandile Mthethwa from the municipality.
