BLUE Security reported that armed robbers and housebreakers targeted several homes in Glenmore and Glenwood over the past week.
Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson, said armed robbers had continued to target the area as several incidents had been reported over the past few days.
“At about 8pm on Saturday evening a gang of robbers, armed with a gun and knives, burst into a house in Alton Road in Glenmore and held up student residents. The robbers fled with a television and cash,” he said.
In the latest incident at lunchtime on Monday, Jackson said four robbers, one of them armed with a firearm, arrived in a grey Mercedes and held up a gardener in Queen Elizabeth Drive in Manor Gardens.
“The gang robbed him of a lawnmower and fled the scene. Fortunately there were no injuries during both armed robbery incidents,” he said.
In a second incident on Saturday evening housebreakers derailed the driveway gate of a property in Myro Drive in Glenmore.
Business and residential housebreakings were also reported in Esther Roberts Road, Evans Road and ZK Matthews Road.
“Housebreakers forced open a gate and doors to gain entry and entered one of the properties through the roof,” he said.
Items reported stolen included computers, electrical equipment, cash, a gas stove and bottle, a cell phone, a watch and an angle grinder.
Jackson urged residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity in the suburb to their security companies and to the police.
“We urge residents to connect with their respective neighbourhood watch groups and to report any suspicious vehicles and individuals. We advise residents not to approach possible suspects, as they may be armed, but to rather call their security company and the police to the scene,” he said.
