Innovation is key to NPO sustainability

The Southern Africa Institute of Fundraising will share insight with fundraisers from many NPOs across the province at a convention next month.

NON-PROFIT organisations which depend on public and private donations to fund their work will need to be innovative and creative in order to survive in an increasingly challenging economic environment.

This is the message from Southern Africa Institute of Fundraising (SAIF) leaders, who will gather at the Assegay Hotel and Conference Centre in Durban KZN on 11 March from 8am to 4pm to share their insights and wisdom with fundraisers from many non-profit organisations across the province.

“With the decrease in international funding and corporate donations stagnating, non-profits need to look at diversified income streams,” said SAIF president, Ann Bown, who will be presenting a workshop on ‘Fundraising Trends in 2015 and beyond’.

This sentiment was echoed by Kelvin Glen, an experienced fundraising consultant and SAIF board member, who will present a session titled: ‘Linking donors with NPOs’, which will offer relevant and valuable insight into this important aspect of fundraising.

The SAIF convention is open to anyone involved in fundraising, either in a voluntary or staff capacity, and aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to help them become innovative and creative fundraisers and generating sustainable sources of revenue.

“It’s an ideal opportunity to learn from some of the industry’s leading authorities on the latest trends in fundraising and changes in legislation which will affect fundraising activities in the future, and innovative and sustainable fundraising ideas,” said conference organiser, Wendy McLeod.

“The aim of the conference is to enable each delegate to return to their organisation and immediately start implementing what they have learnt about how to make NPOs more sustainable through better fundraising practices,” said Linda Hill, SAIF KZN chairperson.
