
Security officers arrested two men who allegedly assaulted a security guard at a business premises in King Dinuzulu (Berea) Road on Friday evening at around 7pm.
According to Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson, the two alleged attackers attempted to coerce a security guard regarding their alleged intention to steal from the store but he refused to entertain their requests.
“The men got upset and picked a fight with the security officer, assaulting him and also damaging the shop front glass with a bottle. Our officer responded to the scene and arrested the two suspects who put up a fight during the arrest,” he said.
The men were handed over to the Umbilo SAPS who attended the scene. A case of assault and damage to property was opened .
In another arrest on Friday, two men were arrested in Mayville after an officer responded to the scene of an alleged trespassing incident.
Jackson said a resident in Rand Road in Manor Gardens spotted the men attempting to break into his garage.
“The suspects fled but when our officer arrived he noted the client’s description of the men, patrolled the area and tracked them down in nearby Mayville,” he said.
Both men were handed over the Mayville SAPS who attended the scene.
In an arrest last week an armed reaction officer apprehended an alleged thief in Springfield Road after a citizen was robbed of a cellphone and a bank card. He was handed over to the Berea SAPS.
Jackson said an alleged housebreaker was also arrested in Umbilo last Monday after he tried to steal a cast iron bathtub from a property in Glastonbury Road.
“He had forced open the door and security gate to gain entry but was disturbed when our officer arrived on the scene. He tried to escape through a window but our officer chased him and then a back up officer arrived and arrested him,” he said.
He was handed over to the Umbilo SAPS who attended the scene.
