Witnesses sought in Morningside security guard’s murder

Police are looking for a man who may have witnessed the fatal stabbing of a security guard on Tuesday evening in Morningside.

BEREA police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a security guard was killed outside a popular Morningside butcher, baker and deli this week.

According to Captain Kevin Stephen, acting Vispol commander for Berea SAPS, the murder occurred at about 6.30pm on Tuesday evening outside the store just before it was closed.

“We received information that an argument ensued between the security and an unidentified man. At this stage we don’t know who the man is and are looking for witnesses.

“We are looking for the white male who witnessed the incident and who stopped in his blue Polo, to assist the guard as we believe he will be able to shed more information and possibly identify the man who stabbed the guard.”

Garrith Jamieson, operations director at Rescue Care said the guard had sustained multiple penetrating wounds to his upper body.

“Unfortunately there was nothing more paramedics could do and he was declared deceased on the scene.”

Berea police are investigating a case of murder.
