Berea schoolboy mugged at knifepoint

"My son could have lost his life, for a cellphone. "

A BEREA mom has appealed to school children to be aware of criminals after her son was mugged at 2.50pm on Monday, 13 April.

She said her son was waiting for her to fetch him after school at the intersection of St Thomas and Vause Road, Berea, when he was approached by two men.

“One of the men walked past him and the second male demanded that my son give him his cellphone. He then pushed a knife to his back and grabbed his cellphone which my son held in his right hand. The two men fled in a white Volkswagen. My son unfortunately did not take the registration number of the vehicle as he was shaken by the incident,” she said.

She said thankfully he was not seriously injured. “The fact is that these criminals are targeting our children, our future. My son could have lost his life, for a cellphone.

“Criminals have no remorse for human life. We have to look out for one another, this incident could have had a serious outcome, and this could happen again. I just want to urge our kids to be vigilant and check their surroundings, do not become a criminal’s next target,” she said.
