Ladder recovered
Berea police recovered an aluminium ladder on Sunday morning.
According to Lieutennat PN Naidoo, communications officer for Berea SAPS, police were patrolling along Botanic Gardens when they noticed a man carrying an aluminium ladder.
“The officers stopped and questioned the man about the ladder and he could not give them a reasonable explanation as to whose ladder it was or where he got it. He was arrested for being in possession of property suspected to be stolen and detained at SAP Berea.
Thief caught red handed
Berea police were patrolling along Bell Grove in the early hours of Monday morning when they noticed a young man breaking into the garage on one of the properties.
Lieutenant PN Naidoo explained, “The officers gave chase and arrested the suspect. The complainant was awoken and did not know the suspect. The suspect wanted to steal items from the vehicle that was parked in the garage. Electric tools including a drill, saw and extension cord was taken out of the garage.”
The suspect was detained at SAP Berea on charges of housebreaking and theft.
Crime awareness tips
“When going out make sure all doors and windows are locked and alarms are on, even in flats as suspects are getting in,” said Lt Naidoo. He urged the public to be vigilant and not leave valuables near windows as there incidents have been reported where they were fished out by the suspects.
