Business community initiates safety meeting

A business community initiative will address security issues affecting the Godfrey Lane quadrant at a meeting at the Berea Bowling Club next Thursday evening.

THE business community in Glenwood has invited business owners and residents to a safety and security meeting on Thursday, 11 February from 5.30 to 6.30pm at the Berea Bowling Club Hall.

According to Miss Nandi, a businesswoman in the Glenwood area, the Godfrey Lane Safety and Security Initiative was launched after recent break-ins at offices around the Godfrey Lane quadrant. “We had incidents in previous years where our computer equipment was taken, but a lot of our neighbouring businesses were affected by crime over the festive season and in the new year. As business people in the area, we are tired of being on edge and would like peace of mind because we spend much of our time at work,” she said.

Nandi added that dumping in the area was also a problem, as well as urinating in public and prostitution which threatened the safety and security of the neighbourhood.

The businesses and residents located on Godfrey Avenue (between Devonshire Avenue and Esther Roberts Road), Clark Grove (between Helen Joseph Road and Clark Road), Devonshire Avenue (between Helen Joseph Road and Clark Road), Helen Joseph Road (between Devonshire Avenue and Esther Roberts Road) and Clark Road (between Devonshire Avenue and Esther Roberts Road) are invited to the meeting.

Call Brandon on 084 087 1960 or Jessie or Tshego on 031 202 0573 to confirm attendance at the meeting by noon on Wednesday 10 February.
