‘Grand old lady’ celebrates 95 years

Open Air School celebrated 95 years on 9 February.

OPEN Air School recently celebrated its 95th anniversary with a special assembly at the school.

Speaking at the event, principal Noel Moodley encouraged those present to give a round of applause for the 'grand old lady' and said looking around, he could see the boys and girls who mattered most, as well as teachers who go above and beyond, members of the Trust, management and School Governing Body.

“I see a generation to come burning the torch saying 'I can and I will', new staff coming in who will see that if our current teachers can do it, so can they. Today we also thank our sponsors GUD for making our science lab a reality as well. At Open Air School, it's not about disability, it's about dreamability!” he said.

GUD committed to continue supporting the school in the future, and pledged a further R40 000 on the day for any project the school wished to use it for.

A music video featuring the children singing a popular song, as well as a video on the history of the school, up to today, were well received by all present.

The cake was cut by staff who recently retired, but who were recognised for long service to the school, George Nell and Pious Ncongo and School Governing Body chair, Toni Permall.
