Armed suspects evade arrest in high speed chase

A revolver and live ammunition was found in the vehicle.

SHOTS were fired between fleeing suspects and Marshall Security officers in a high speed chase that saw the armed suspects travelling in a white BMW 320i travelling contraflow on Mashabalala Yengwa (NMR) Avenue in an effort to evade arrest, this afternoon.

According to Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security, the fleeing suspects fired at security officers who returned fire during the chase that took them through Windermere where the officers lost the BMW on Sandile Thusi (Argyle) Road only to find it later abandoned in Beatrice Street. A revolver and live ammunition was found in the vehicle.

The security company said it had been alerted to a house robbery in progress in Lonsdale Drive Durban North at around 1.45pm this afternoon (Tuesday).  Armed reaction officers as well as the Special Operations team were dispatched and received information that an unknown number of suspects had forced entry into the house before fleeing in the BMW.  The car was spotted on Kenneth Kauna Road and the high speed chase ensued.

No arrests have been made and the suspects are still at large.

Reports from the home indicate that the suspects forced open the driveway gate and front door to the home. The homeowner’s son was at home at the time. He was assaulted with the butt of a firearm and ordered to lay down while one of the men stood guard over him. the men ransacked the home stealing various items include a laptop before fleeing the scene. All the stolen items were recovered along with the firearm in the abandoned vehicle.

The victim refused medical treatment.
