Durban to hosts Banyana Banyana World Cup farewell match

The match will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 6 April. The official Mayoral farewell reception and trophy tour will take place on 5 April.

ETHEKWINI Municipality will host a farewell match between Banyana Banyana versus Jamaica as the country’s women football team heads off to the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time.

This was announced  at an Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday.   The match is due to take place in April as Banyana Banyana heads off to compete in the World Cup from 7 June to 7 July in France.

In a report tabled at the meeting, it was stated that by hosting the trophy tour the municipality whould enhance its reputation for hosting major events and its support for female participation in sports.  It said it would also count in the City’s favour when South African bids to host the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The match will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 6 April. The official Mayoral farewell reception and trophy tour will take place on 5 April.

The match will be broadcast live and entry to the stadium will be free.
