Use grants wisely over festive season, warns SASSA
The agency warned beneficiaries not to use their social grant payments for luxuries or to pay back loanshark debt, but to use it to buy basic needs.
THE South African Social Security Agency has appealed to all its beneficiaries to use their social grant money wisely over the festive season. The agency warned beneficiaries not to use their social grant payments for luxuries or to pay back loanshark debt, but to use it to buy basic needs. It stressed that the social grant is an intervention for poverty alleviation

Parents and legal guardians who receive child support grant benefits are cautioned to use the grant for the child’s needs and not their own. Children in their care must have proper clothing and nutritious food.
SASSA also provide the following tips to help beneficiaries protect their cash over the festive season:
• Be wary of people loitering around the ATM and ensure that you are not followed
• Check your balance regularly and report discrepancies to your Bank immediately
• After you have completed your transaction successfully, leave the ATM area immediately .Be cautious of strangers requesting that you return to the ATM to finalise /close the transaction because they are unable to transact .Skimming may occur during this distraction.
• Some fraudsters wait until you have drawn your cash to take advantage
• Take your time to complete your transaction and secure your card and your cash in your safe wallet, handbag or pocket before leaving the ATM.
SASSA grant payment for the next few months will occur on the following dates:
December payment will be made on the last working day of November, Friday 29 November.
January 2020 payment will be made on Tuesday, 31 December.
February’s grant will be paid on Friday, 31 January.
March 2020 payment date will be paid on Friday, 28 February.
April payment will be on Wednesday, 1 April.
May grants will be paid on Thursday, 30 April
June grants will be paid on Monday, 1 June.
