Two arrested in shootout with police

The two suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court next week.

TWO car thieves were arrested following a shoot-out with Berea police on Thursday, 12 March.

According to Col Thembeka Mbele from provincial SAPS, Berea police officers were patrolling along Holden Road in Morningside around 10.30am when they noticed three men trying to steal a vehicle.

“The police officers stopped and as they approached the vehicle, the suspects pointed a firearm at the police. There was a shoot-out and one suspect was sustained an injury and was arrested at the scene. The second suspect was apprehended while the third managed to flee the scene,” said Mbele.

She said the suspects were found in possession of car breaking implements, a gas gun and other items.

“The two suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court facing charges of attempted murder and attempted theft of a motor vehicle,” she said.
